Film Cambodia Organization (FCO) became a local NGO on 2 January 2008, but was conceived in March 2006 when Mariam Arthur approached Cambodia’s Department of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion about helping develop the Khmer film industry.
Arthur returned to the United States to spend a year researching and planning a strategy. She returned to Phnom Penh in April 2007 and began meeting both Khmer and foreign film professionals such as those at Bophana Audiovisual Center, Hanuman Films, and Hang Meas, as well as government officials.
The first newsletter, Mise en Scene, was published in June 2007.
In October 2007, Arthur began partnering with Sor Thida, Tim Francis and In Mean. Official documents were signed in December 2007, forming a local NGO. Status was granted in January 2008.
CAMBODIA OSCAR SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), sanctioned the COSC at their October executive committee meeting and we were notified on 6 October 2012. The committee is part of Film Cambodia Organization, registered with the Ministry of Interior.
In addition to submitting Cambodia's Oscar selection each year, we organize events as fundraisers for the Khmer Film Fund to support emerging filmmakers.
We also host workshops to improve the skills and educate filmmakers.
Your support is always welcome. Contact us about ways you can be involved.
Enjoy this video slideshow about our delegation to the Hong Kong Filmart expo in 2019 to educate filmmakers about international film sales and introduce them to buyers and distributors.
There are so many ways to get involved in our community. Drop us a line to find out about events, volunteer opportunities and fundraisers!
